About Asset Compressor

Fast, private image and video tools – without uploading your files anywhere.

Most online converters and compressors make you upload your files to someone else’s server, wait in a queue, and then download the results again. That is slow for big folders and long videos, and a real privacy problem for client work, personal photos, family videos or unreleased products.

Asset Compressor takes a different approach: all processing runs inside your browser tab. Your files are read from your disk, processed on your own device and saved back to your disk. They never travel over the internet.

What you can do

  • Compress and convert images in bulk – JPG, PNG, WebP and AVIF, including whole folders with subfolders. See the bulk image compressor.
  • Resize images or hit an exact file size such as 100 KB for upload forms.
  • Remove image backgrounds with AI – the model runs on your device. Try the background remover.
  • Compress, convert and resize videos – MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV, with hardware acceleration. Open the video compressor.

What’s under the hood

  • Professional image encoders compiled to WebAssembly – MozJPEG for JPEG, libwebp for WebP, OxiPNG for lossless PNG and libavif for AVIF, via the open-source jSquash project.
  • Hardware video encoding through the browser’s WebCodecs API and the open-source Mediabunny library, with FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly as a compatibility fallback.
  • On-device AI – the open-source IS-Net general-use segmentation model (Apache-2.0) running with ONNX Runtime on WebGPU or WebAssembly.
  • A “never larger” guarantee – when you keep the original format, files that can’t be improved are left exactly as they were.
  • Offline-ready – Asset Compressor can be installed as an app and the image tools keep working without a connection once they have loaded.
