How much do I save with WebP?
At similar visual quality, WebP files are typically 25–35% smaller than well-optimized JPEGs, and much smaller than JPEGs straight from a camera.
That makes WebP the easiest win for faster websites, online stores and blogs: every modern browser supports it.
Is WebP right for you?
For websites, yes. For sending photos by email or printing, JPEG is still the safer choice because some desktop apps and print services don’t accept WebP. Asset Compressor never changes your originals, so you can keep both.
Using WebP on your website
WordPress, Shopify, Wix, Squarespace and most static-site generators accept WebP uploads. Upload the converted files in place of your JPEGs and your pages get lighter immediately – usually the single biggest improvement to Largest Contentful Paint on image-heavy pages.
If you hand-code your site and want to support very old browsers, use a picture element with the WebP as the first source and the original JPEG as the fallback img.
Frequently asked questions
Will my photos lose quality?
Converting from JPEG to lossy WebP re-encodes the image. At 80% quality the difference is not visible at normal viewing sizes. Use the comparison slider to check before downloading.
Should I use WebP or AVIF?
AVIF is usually smaller again, but encodes much more slowly and is less widely supported by editing tools. WebP is the safest choice for most websites today.
Is photo metadata kept?
No. Converted images don’t include EXIF data such as GPS location, which keeps your photos private when you publish them.
Can I convert a whole photo library?
Yes. Select the folder and every JPEG in it, including subfolders, is converted. The ZIP keeps the same folder structure.
Does WebP support the same colors as JPEG?
Yes. Photos keep their colors when converted. Images with wide-gamut color profiles are converted to standard sRGB, which is what browsers display for most web images anyway.
